COMMUNITY GROUPS

Dancin' turns ten

The Health Issues Taskforce (HIT) is expanding its staff and services to keep up with the growing demand for AIDS/HIV services in the Greater Cleveland community. However, to continue keeping pace, we need your support.

Here's an update on upcoming fundraising events and other news. Dancin'

Help us walk that Walk. We need your help in putting together this year's Cleveland AIDS Walk, Step in the Right Direction. Assistance is needed in a wide range of areas.

The event is scheduled for Sunday, September 25 and will start and end at Edgewater Park. This will be the fourth annual pledge walk to benefit AIDS/HIV care and education programs in the Greater Cleveland area.

To learn more about volunteering for the Walk, call the Walk Coordinator, Pat Quinonez, at 622-7788.

Come aboard our boat. Join us for the "First 10 Event," a tenth-year anniversary fundraiser aboard the William G. Mather on Saturday, June 18. We'll gather at 7:30 pm for a cash bar, sunset dinner and entertainment. Reservations are requested. For more information, call Fran at HIT, 621-0766.

Safer sex training for the gay and lesbian community. HIT is sponsoring a dinner and seminar to help community leaders become a resource for AIDS/HIV information. This event is scheduled for Snickers Restaurant on Monday, May 23 at 6:30 pm. If you work in a local bar or other

Can we talk? Our Speakers Bureau is available to talk to your organization about any aspect of AIDS/HIV. Call the Taskforce at 621-0766.

New faces on the force. As we said, HIT is growing to meet the needs of our community. We recently welcomed: Fran Petonic, who helps with funds development as our new Contributions Coordinator; Pat Quinonez, Walk Coordinator (for Step in the Right Direction); Jill Johnson, Case Manager. Also, as our new Gay Education Coordinator, Jan Cline talks to people about AIDS/HIV at local bars and other gay and lesbian community organizations and events. To make HIT services more accessible, Tracy Leon is doing off-site case management at the J. Glen Smith Health Center and the Miles-Broadway Health Center.

Search for tomorrow. Our search for a new executive director is underway. We're interviewing a number of qualified candidates.

Space exploration. With the expansion in our services and staff, we've outgrown our current office and hope to move sometime in August. We'll keep you posted.
